"2020 at Sunrise"

"2020 at Sunrise" is the most comprehensive work I've ever created, taking a year to complete. I committed to photographing the sunrise every morning in 2020, from the exact same spot on the Belmar beach.
It's all 366 sunrises in 2020 in horizontal strips, showing the exact
moment the sun emerged from the horizon (the blue strips were the horizon on cloudy days), stacked in chronological order, from January 1 to December 31 from the top to bottom. I wanted to create a comprehensive piece that displayed the entire year of sunrises in one glance.
I had no idea that I would be documenting, in daily sunrises, a historic, tumultuous year that we will never forget.
I shared the daily photo on social media each morning and surprisingly, these photos took on a life of their own. They brought a feeling of peace and calm to many, during the ongoing uncertainty of the pandemic.
What a feeling to be able to reach so many with a little bright spot of hope ... everyday.
